2010 WUC Taekwondo Update: Day 3 of Competitions

VIGO – Four more categories concluded their competition at the World University Championship in Vigo, Spain – the women’s -46kg and -73kg, as well as Men’s -54kg -87kg.

The men’s -54kg saw Chinese Taipei’s Yu-Yao Tseng beat Naghibzadeh Seydehsan from Iran by 4-2. The bronze medals went to Sasan Dalirnejad from Germany and Min Young Seo from Korea. In the higher men’s -87kgcategory, the gold medal went to Yoo Jin Cho from Korea that beat Serdar Yüksel from Turkey by 10-5. Germany’s Christoph Lehmann and Iran’s Menran Askari took bronze.

The world university title in the women’s -73kg category was between Chia-Chia Chuang from Chinese Taipei and the home favourite Leyre Matute Gómez from Spain. In a close fight, Chia-Chia took the lead in the last round with 59s remaining on the clock. A strong left head-kick all but guaranteed the 1st place, followed by yet another well placed kick. The final score was 7-0. The bronze medals went to Tuba Abus from Turkey and Melda Akcan from Germany.

Korea won yet another gold medal in the women’s -46kg category. The gold medal winner was Mi Na Hwang (Korea) that beat Rukiye YILDIRIM (Turkey) by 3-1. The Korean was trailing with just three seconds but managed an amazing head-kick to take 1st place.

Men’s -54kg

GOLD: Yu-Yao TSENG (Chinese Taipei)

SILVER: Naghibzadeh SEYDEHSAN (Iran)

BRONZE: Sasan DALIRNEJAD (Germany) and Min Young SEO (Korea).

Men’s -87kg

GOLD: Yoo Jin CHO (Korea)

SILVER: Serdar YÜKSEL (Turkey)

BRONZE: Christoph LEHMANN (Germany) and Menran ASKARI (Iran).

Women’s -46kg

GOLD: Mi Na HWANG (Korea)

SILVER: Rukiye YILDIRIM (Turkey)

BRONZE: Zhang YUERU (China) and Emilie TRAN (France).

Women’s -73kg

GOLD: Chia-Chia CHUANG (Chinese Taipei)

SILVER: Leyre MATUTE GÓMEZ (Spain)

BRONZE: Tuba ABUS (Turkey) and Melda AKCAN (Germany).
