2010 WUC Taekwondo Update: Opening Ceremony & Poomsae Competition

Women’s Team 3 Competitors Golden Girls (KOR)

 

VIGO – The big day finally arrived with the beginning of the Poomsae competition. This took place in two sessions with the first medals being handed out to Spain, Korea, Germany, Iran, USA and Portugal.

Prior to this, the Opening Ceremony took place in the Travesas Sports Hall with the protocol marching parade of countries participating at the event. The traditional speeches took place with words from José Ramon Leto (Galicia Sports General Secretary), Xose Henrique Costas (Vice rector of the University of VIgo), Santiago Domínguez (Assistant Mayor of Vigo and Honorary President of the Organising Committee) and Kemal Tamer (FISU Executive Committee member) that declared the 11th World University Taekwondo Championship open. This was followed by a magnificent taekwondo exhibition that thrilled the audience.

For the Poomsae and Kyorugi competition, the event has already received 37 countries, with 145 male and 118 female athletes, and 106 officials – a total of 372 accredited participants.

Men’s Individual: 1st Mikel Martinez del Rio (ESP), 2nd Sang Mok Lee (KOR), and 3rd Ali Nadalinajafadadi (IRI), Sommer Thomas (GER)

Woman’s Individual: 1st Laura Kim Kim (ESP), 2nd Su Ji Kang (KOR), and 3rd Claudia Beaujean (GER), Mazdani Mahsa (IRI)
