2010 WUC Beach Volleyball Update: Finals

Men’s Final

Women’s Bronze

In the women’s bronze medal game Germany encountered Czech Republic.

GER team

Marika STEINHOF aged 21, high 177cm, H. University Berlin;

Victoria BEINECK aged 19, high 184, T. University Berlin

CZE team

Martina SIMIDOVA aged 23, high 179, Police Acacemy Prague,

Sarka NAKLADALOVA aged 24, high 179, Economy Faculty of Universith Karl, Prague

CZE started very well with lightly placing the balls in the open space team Germany. But good spikes and serves of Beineck put the GER team to lead after the technical break. Good play by Sarka Nakladalova who used every ball to play a careful game, putting CZE into the lead and winning the first set 24:22.

In the 1st half of the second set a good serving of Simidova and spikes by Nakladalova on the side of court CZE got the Czechs leading 9:6. After the second time out Steinhoff made an excellent spiking with great serving. The Czechs started to make small mistakes on the net and lost the second set 14:21. The third set was led by the Germans initially 1:6, but Sarka Nakladalova with a perfect cooperative play by Simidova scored some points and after time out it was 10:11 for GER. Many mistakes on the last balls of CZE finished the game with a 3rd set in favor of the GER team with a 12:15. So GER 2 won the bronze against CZE 2:1.

Men’s Bronze

POL team

Damian WOJTASEK aged 20, high 193, WUG University

Concentration matters in sports. BRA at the beginning scored some great points after Luciano spikes on the net and BRA started with a 4:1 lead. But a good moving Polish team well predicting the Brazilian spikes, Poland equaled the score 7:7. After the technical Time out the BRA team had a great serving and blocking of Lucian with Santos and they obtained a 17:12 lead. POL concentrated very well at the end but it was not enough and BRA won the first set 21:19. Second set was again very lucrative for BRA which was leading 7:2. But after the time out of POL and some perfect spikes by Wojtasek, the POL team got into a 11:10 lead and finally won the set 21:17. The third 3 set was also won by the Polish team 15:10.

Women’s Final

GER 1

Brita BUTTER aged 22, high 186, ANSPACH University

A well played game by both teams with long exchanges of balls. The first set went up in favor of CZE like 6:3, 6:4, 12:6,13:,15:11,16:12. Even if Burger started to have excellent spikes it was not enough against CZE. CZE won the first set 21:15. The second set went up very equal, however, GER was minimum 1 point in advance most of the set: 11:10, 14:13,17:15, but at the end CZE made mistakes and became agitated losing their calm and the set 21:18.

The final set was a great play and spectacular to watch equal up from the beginning 2:2, 4:4, 5:5; 7:7. But then CZE after a 3rd change of courts and bad serving of Marketa Sulikova lost the set and the game 15:11.

Alexander WALCERHOST participated in the 2009 European U23 Champion in Russia and GER 2 earned bronze at the European U23 Championship.

The next edition goes to BrazilAn all-German final giving the best play of the championship. Very experience players showed the spectators and TV audience great exchanges of balls and even if they were from the same country each player was fighting for every ball to score a point for his team. GER team 1 won the first set after a great equal game 21:19. After winning the second set as well GER 1 claimed the gold.
