Sydney – The Australian University Sport (AUS) Honour Roll was launched at a black tie dinner at the Novotel Brighton last week and was a “who’s who” of university sport over the last five decades. Combined with the announcement of the 2009 AUS award winners, the night recognised champions and medallists from World University Games and Championships since the World University Summer Games in Tokyo in 1967, right up to the great sporting achievements of 2009.

Twenty seven champions and over 200 medallists were inducted into the Honour Roll, including sporting greats such as Olympians Shaun Creighton, Ralph Doubell, Jane Jamieson, Lars Kleppich, Craig Miller, Steve Moneghetti, Rod Owen-Jones, Adam Pine, Burl Reid, Martin Roberts and Nathan Thomas, illustrating the depth of talent that has moved through the Australian university sporting system.

Australian University Sport CEO Don Knapp was thrilled to see so many sporting greats in one room. “It is incredible to see the amazing sporting talent that we have in our universities in Australia, with so many students over the years competing for their country on the world stage. We are honoured to be able to recognise these elite athletes by inducting them on the AUS Honour Roll.”

A full list of Honour Roll medallists and champions can be found on the AUS website: http://www.unigames.com.au/extra.asp?id=4&OrgID=1.
