Medellín – Coaches, teachers, principals and presidents of sports federations in Colombia participated in the II National Meeting of University Sports, May 6th and 7th, in the capital Medellín. The event was sponsored by Ascundeportes (University Sports Federation of Colombia), headed by Teresita Aranzazu.

Luciano Cabral, President of Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU) and FISU Vice-President, attended the event as international guest and delivered the opening lecture of the meeting.

The Brazilian leader spoke in his lecture on topics related to international university sports and the role of FISU; the growth of university sports in America and the current management model of university sport in Brazil and in CBDU, emphasizing structure, partnerships, investments and the role of CBDU in preparations for the 2016 Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro .

Teresita Aranzazu (Ascundeportes Colômbia) with Alim Neto (COSUD President) at the South American University Games in Curitiba“I feel honored to participate in this meeting, since it gives us the opportunity to learn more about the structure of university sports in America. I was in Cuba last year and was very pleased with the work in the country. Now I have come to Colombia and I am satisfied to see the involvement of principals, teachers and government officials with the university sports. The country has just approved a new law specific to university sports and built a development plan for the next 10 years. And it is important to bring the message of FISU at these meetings and talk about the management model that we apply in Brazil”, said Luciano Cabral.

With Teresita Aranzazu, President of Ascundeportes, Luciano Cabral attended a lunch at the Colombian Soccer Federation to honor the athletes of the male soccer team champion of the South American University Games in Curitiba (BRA) last month.

Mr. Cabral also met with rectors of universities in Colombia to discuss the possibility for the country to host international events of COSUD, ODUPA and FISU taking advantage of the venues built for the 2010 South American Games.

“Colombia was attributed the 2010 South American Games. They constructed an excellent sport park capable of receiving and hosting international tournaments in various forms”, added the FISU Vice-President.
