Chile Celebrates First Trophy of the 2010 South American University Games

Chile won the first trophy of the III South American University Games 2010, this Tuesday April 20th, in Curitiba (PR). Carlos Javier and Alejandro Ibañes won the tennis doubles tournament with a victory against Colombia’s team formed by Harold Montoya and Jose Aristizabal.

Colombia went ahead and won the 1st set for 7/6 but allowed the Chileans a comeback with a 7/5 in the following set. In the tie-brake Carlos and Alejandro played better and took advantage closing the game with a 10/6.

Today, Wednesday April 21st April, the semi-finals of tennis singles tournament are played between Brazil – Valter Mori and Luis Deneke – and Chile – Carlos Ibañes and Alejandro Javier.

Another confrontation between Brazil and Chile also occurs in the volleyball tournament. The teams won their first two matches in these South American Games and sealed their place in the finals.

In the football tournament, Colombia defeated Uruguay this Tuesday with a goal at 44min of the second half (1×0) and is leading the race.

More than 200 people, including athletes, coaches, officials and organizing committee, are participating in the competition. Teams and athletes from Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Colombia dispute the South American Games 2010 in three sports disciplines: judo, karate and taekwondo.

The III South American Games University of Curitiba are held from April 18th to 23rd. The tournament is being organized by South American University Sports Confederation (COSUD) with the support of the Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU), Parana government and University Sports Federation.
