Brazil Hosts 2010 South American University Games

National teams and athletes from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Uruguay arrive in Curitiba (PR), this Saturday, April 17th, for the 3rd edition of the South American University Games, promoted by COSUD with technical support of Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU).

The 2010 South American Games 2010 will last until April 23rdl, date of the final matches, and will be disputed in three sports: volleyball, soccer and tennis (all in masculine categories).

Playing at home, with the support from the local public, Brazil seeks its third trophy in volleyball matches at these South American University Games and the second victory in the soccer tournament. The entrance to follow the games is free for all spectators

This is the second time that Curitiba opens its doors to receive the main university teams from South America. In 2006, the city received the 2ª edition of the South American Games that brought together about 900 athletes of Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Equator and Brazil.

The teams of Unoesc (SC) and Feevale (RS) and tennis player Valter Mori (FAE-PR) will play will defend the Brazilian colors at the South American University Games.

Champion of Brazilian University League last year, the men’s volleyball team from Unoesc (SC) is on a mission to guarantee the hegemony of Brazil in the tournament against Chile, Colombia and Paraguay.

On the soccer pitch, the men’s team of Feevale (RS), that won their first national trophy last year, faces Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Uruguay. The teams play round robin and the two best will face themselves in the finals.

At the tennis tournament, Valter Mori, FAE-PR’s athlete, who represented Brazil at the 2009 Summer Universiade in Belgrade, returns to defend Brazil against opponents from Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Uruguay.
