CBDU Stages 1st National Triathlon Championship

On April 11th, Pâmella Oliveira (UNICEP-SP) and Mauro Cavanha (UTP-PR) won the first edition of the Triathlon University Brazilian Championship 2010, in Vitória (state of Espírito Santo), and will therefore represent Brazil at the FISU 2010 World University Triathlon Championship in Valencia, Spain, May 29th to 30th.

The National University Championship was organized parallel to the Brazilian Olympic Triathlon Championship. Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU) homologated the results of the university athletes who had participated in the elite and under-23 categories of the Brazilian Olympic Triathlon test, promoted by Brazilian Triathlon Confederation (CBTri).

Mauro Cavanha In 02h04min03seg, Mauro Cavanha not only guaranteed the trophy of university championship, but also the victory in main category of the Brazilian Olympic Triathlon Championship. Pâmella ended 5th in the women’s principal test completing the passage in 02h27min01seg, the best result in university dispute that gave her the 2010 women’s university title.

“It is always very good competing home with family and friends support and celebrate a victory. I hope that this initiative of CBDU and CBTri to include Triathlon in a university tournament stimulates education institutions to support its athletes at this sport”, said Pâmella, number one in Brazilian Triathlon Ranking and number 64 of UTI´s classification.

Cavanha also commemorated: “It was a perfect end of the week with this two titles: in elite and university categories. Mainly for the possibility of being able to represent Brazil at the FISU World University Championship.

Triathlon University Brazilian Championship 2010 brought together athletes from five states: São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Distrito Federal, Minas Gerais, Amazonas, Paraná and Espirito Santo.
