What have Canadians Andrea Boras, Rayanne Reeve, Stephanie Ramsay, Leah Copeland, Vanessa Davidson, Cathy Chartrand, Alyssa Cecere and Caroline Hill in common?

In 2009 at the Winter Universiade they donned the Maple Leaf jersey playing for Team Canada’s ‘Golden Girls’ squad winning the inaugural Women’s Ice Hockey tournament at the 24th Winter Universiade in Harbin China.

However, on March 14th, these student-athletes faced-off against each other when the University of Alberta Pandas played the McGill Martlets to decide the CIS national champion in women’s ice hockey.

The outcome was in favor of the Alberta Pandas being crowned as the 2010 CIS women’s ice hockey champions, their 7th national title. The Pandas entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed and knocked off the No. 1 McGill Martlets with a 2-0 gold medal victory last Sunday evening at the StFX Keating Centre in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

For FISU Staff member Taryn Barry who played for the Pandas winning four national championship titles (2003, 2004, 2006 & 2007) this was a sweet walk on memory lane.
