4 March 2010

On Saturday February 28th, the Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU) held in Brasília (DF) its General Ordinary Assembly – AGO 2010. Presidents and representatives from 25 of the 27 State University Federations (FUE´s) were present at the event.

Inside the guidelines of AGO 2010, the presidents approved CBDU´s official calendar for the 2010 season, defining dates and cities that will receive mainly university competitions this year, especially the events from the 2010 University Sports League, and also appointing the FISU World University Championships in which Brazilian will participate.

CBDU is planning to send athletes to eleven of the 29 World University Championships which have been attributed this year, i.e. Triatlhon, Beach Volleyball, Handball, Taekwondo, Karate, Rugby, Rowing, Futsal, Canoeing, Chess and Equestrian.

“After a significant result in Belgrade (2009 SU), we start a new university cycle and it’s very important to be present at the World University Championships to prepare our teams and athletes in technical level to improve ours results at the 2011 Summer Universiade”, Luciano Cabral, CBDU President and FISU Vice-President said.

The Assembly also discussed and approved the financial and legal balances of the 2009 activities and regulations and norms to events and tournaments in the 2010 season.

Prior to the Assembly, CBDU´s directors and states representatives attended a lecture of Marcos Felipe Magalhães, author and specialist in Marketing and Competitiveness, about sports management and organization.

“We are living a special moment in Brazil – that will receive a FIFA World Cup and the Olympics Games in the following years – which will also be special and important moments for university sport, athletes, professionals and citizens. That´s why we need to professionalize CBDU and the state federations to be ready to contribute and participate in this evolution”, Cabral said.
