Five months before the celebration of the FISU Forum at Vigo, its organizers are showing progress in the organization aspects, and confirm that this 10th Forum edition will have the largest attendance ever.
Between June 21st and June 26th, around 250 participants from 63 countries from all five continents will meet in the city, explained Ms. Laura Magdalena, general manager of VIDE, the foundation in charge of organizing and coordinating the participant administrations and federations.
After a prolonged work day, held last Wednesday at the Vigo University Campus As Lagoas-Marcosende, the Vice Rector for Students and Culture Extension, Ms. Maruxa Cabeza, said that “the organizers’ main commitments include involving and promoting the participation of Portuguese and Spanish universities in this university sports forum, but, above all, the Executive Committee wants to give a Latin American flavor to the event.” For this reason, it was decided to establish, through the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD, Spanish National Sports Council), close cooperation systems with the American countries that require them to come to Vigo in June.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the University of Vigo, the Vigo City Council, the Fundación Vigo en Deporte (VIDE) and two members from the CSD and the Comité Español de Deporte Universitario (CEDU, Spanish Committee for University Sports). During the meeting, other organizational aspects, such as trips and visas for the participants, were also discussed.
The activities for the FISU Forum (seminars, conferences and debates) will take place in the Caixanova Social Centre, the Caixanova Cultural Centre and the University Campus, under the title “University Sport, a Platform for Change”. During six days, issues that help the world university sport progress, and, through it, the society in general, will be discussed.
According to Ms. Maruxa Cabeza, a lot of progress was made in the scientific organization “in the proposals for themes and speakers”, but now the organizers have contacted the Confederation of Deans of the Physical Activity and Sports Science Colleges “to streamline the contents of the debate tables.”
