‘We are a dynamic organization moving from 1 to 10 WUC in 25 years, then from 10 to 20 in ten years time and increasing again to reach 29 World University Championships that will be staged in 2010, all around the world on the five continents and with no less than 7,000 participants’, FISU 1st Vice-President Claude-Louis Gallien said in his welcome speech. ‘I give a special interest to the fact that our WUCs receive great attention from the academic community. It is of extreme importance that our student-athletes, together with their coaches, trainers and professors can exchange, communicate and share experiences.’ Mr. Gallien also praised the OCs of the WUCs. ‘You in the Organizing Committees are volunteers, you are the ones that are able to manage human resources and you are the ones that humanely manage resources through University Sport. You are also becoming more professional in managing your organizations allowing students to acquire a unique international experience. As part of the FISU Family you act as true educators using sport as a wonderful educational tool. I thank you for that.’

After a full day of presentations touching topics as the tasks of the CT Chair, the inspection visit, work plans for a WUC and other WUC related matters, the seminar will continue tomorrow with presentations referring to FISU Protocol, Media, technology and the obligations between the WUCOC, the Technical Chair and the NUSF.
