As you know, the Turkish city of Erzurum is organizing the 25th Winter Universiade in January and February 2011 (27/01-06/02-2011). This is a great challenge for this region that has not yet organized a major international competition, in any case for winter sports.

In Erzurum, many things had to be constructed to host this kind of event. Ever since the Summer Universiade that took place in Izmir in 2005, we have known that the Turks don’t do things by halves. This time all, absolutely all, the sports infrastructures will be brand-new. And the investment is enormous given the number of disciplines in a Winter Universiade.

Figure skating, synchronized skating, short track speed skating, ice hockey, curling, alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and the Nordic combined are all sports on the programme of this competition.

Erzurum already in the

FIS Calendar.
