2009 SU Update: Gold for Russia in Men’s Volleyball

The Russian team was too strong today as the Russian players managed to win the gold medal against Brazil.

Serving and receiving have now become crucial. Teams that couldn’t count on that could not hope to win a match. That’s one of the reasons explaining Russians’ domination.The players were also very strong on defence and blocking at the net. However, the gap between the two finalists was quite small.

Surprising was the Bronze medal gained by the Egyptian team and that’s quite amazing. Indeed, it’s the first time that an African team reached the podium in a Universiade Volleyball competition. It’s an outstanding result for this team and we hope to see these excellent players in two years in Shenzhen.
