2009 SU Update: Already 27 Universiade Records Broken

The Universiade Swimming Pool: the place of broken records

If there is one sport at the Universiade that vouches for Universiade Records to be broken, then it is without doubt swimming. Already from the first day of the competition four records were broken. Until now 24 records have been sharpened. Revelation of the swimming competition is without doubt Kenyan Jason Dunford, who broke the Men’s 50 m and 100 m Butterfly in both semi-finals of the distance, Kenya not exactly being known for producing swimmers, but rather runners.

In athletics three records were broken so far. Both the Women’s and Men’s 20km Walk times were sharpened. Russian Sergey Bakulin set the Men’s Universiade Record at 1:20:52 and his compatriot Olga Mikhailova set it at 1:30:43.

Betty Heidler (GER), the 2007 World Champion in Women’s Hammer Throw reset the Universiade Record with a throw of 75.83.
