2009 SU Update: Former WUC Karate Champion runs Universiade Sports Info Center

25 June 2009

 The Sports Info Center

Every day, Roksanda Lazarevic gets up at 5h30 and travels 90 km from her home town Arandjelovac to Belgrade where she heads the Sports Info Center. At the end of a long working day, she returns home to coach more than 200 kids ranging from 6 to 12 in her karate school. And she has been following this work schedule for the last eight months. Why does this triple University World Champion desire to put so many hours in? The answer is quite simple: pride. ‘It is a great honor for me when I was asked for this job’, Roksanda told FISU Media. ‘It’s an important job as the Sports Info Center is an indispensable link in the Games management.’

The Sports Info Center of the Universiade is situated on the first floor in the International building and is manned by a staff of 55 – 25 professionals and 30 volunteers. Some 85 more volunteers are dispersed around the venues where 20 info desks are located. Every night the Sports Info Center publishes a daily bulletin with the schedules of trainings, competitions, transportation as well as start lists and results. The service is open to coaches and Heads of delegations from 07h00 to 23h00 but when the Games start the staff will no doubt work around the clock; a big responsibility on the shoulders of this 30-year old but this karateka is one tough fighter.
