2010 WUC Rugby Update: High Honours for the OC

Portuguese President Cavaco Silva will chair the Committee of Honour for the 4th World University Rugby Sevens Championship

It is confirmed: the President of the Portuguese Republic, , has accepted to chair the Committee of Honour for the 4th World University Rugby Sevens 2010 which will be hosted from July 21st to 24th, 2010, by the University of Porto together with the Academic University Sports Federation of Portugal (FADU).

In a letter addressed to the Rector of the University of Porto, José Marques dos Santos, the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic informed that Mr Aníbal Cavaco Silva “is delighted” to chair the Committee of Honour of the event hosted by the University of Porto.

The 2010 World University Rugby Sevens Championship is to take place in the city of Porto and will involve 32 teams from all over the world (24 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams). The Organizing Committee already has the support of the Porto City Council and of the Portuguese Rugby Federation. Back in 2008, the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports hallmarked the 4th World University Rugby Sevens 2010 as a national event of public interest.
