2009 SU Update: Ready for Emergency Situations

22 June 2009

Members of the Belgrade Fire Fighting Brigade and Military Medical Academy Emergency Team performed the fire drill in the Universiade Village, where nearly 10,000 athletes are expected to arrive for the forthcoming Universiade in just a few days.

The fire fighters ware equipped with the latest models of fire engines that can perform emergency evacuation and extinguish fire at the same time. Firefighters simulated evacuation of people stranded in high-rise buildings, using one of the Bellville buildings. They demonstrated the rescue of people by means of a high crane and by jumping on an air mattress.

Present at the drill were representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, experts from security agencies, the Universiade organizers and the media. The mobile medical team of the Military Medical Academy had to give first aid to ‘the fire victims’ and transport them to the hospital.

The Medical Military Academy teams will be working in the Village policlinic, which is equipped for all emergency interventions and for monitoring of patients of the Universiade.

The 25th Summer Universiade begins on July 1st in Belgrade. The gates of Universiade Village will be opened for the first guests on Wednesday, June 24th, when the Village Opening Ceremony will be held.
