World Presidents University Summit – Belgrade

FISU President Killian during his presentationThe World Presidents University Summit took place in Belgrade from April 3rd to 5th. The University of Belgrade organised this event in the context of the celebration of the 200 years of its foundation and as a tool of promotion in the academic world for the 25th Universiade held from July 1st to 12th in Belgrade. The theme of the Conference was: “Current Trends in Higher Education.”

The Opening Ceremony gave the occasion to the FISU President, Mr. George E. Killian, to deliver a speech entitled “University sport or sport in the University”. On Friday morning, the Rector of the University, Mr. Kovacevic, also welcomed Mr. Bozidar Djelic, Vice-Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and the Minister of Education, Mr. Zarko Obradovic. The last person to intervene at the Opening Ceremony was the Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics, Mr. Martin Pearl from Stanford University.

The Crown Prince, Aleksander II Karadjordjevic, and Crown Princess Katherine attended the Ceremony together with the 250 participants coming from 54 countries. All participants attended the evening reception offered by the Crown Prince who throughout the “Crown Prince Alexander II foundation for Education” is giving opportunities to Serbian students to continue their university education.
